RICKSHAW – New Look Coming!
You talked, we listened. We are about to roll out the new look for RICKSHAW Wines – but to give you a sneak peek: read more >

Rickshaw is the synthesis to two powerful ideals: that one should be able to have a great bottle of California wine at a reasonable price and that those of us fortunate to enjoy said wine each night should help out our fellow man.
Achieving the first part of the mission is a challenge we embrace. We constantly scour California for good, honest sources of wine. Then we spend months tinkering with different blends until we have something that really shines. Our Pinot Noir, for example, includes parcels from our partners in Anderson Valley, Russian River, and the Santa Lucia Highlands. Many of these parcels regularly go into wines that cost more than $40 a bottle. By blending we are able to deliver them at a much friendlier price.
The second part of the mission comes naturally, by having our priorities in the right place. Rickshaw is committed to donating 5 percent of the gross profit from each bottle to food-related charities in the states where it is sold. In addition we are inviting our distributors, restaurant, and retail partners to participate in our fund raising efforts. Whether it is a donation match, hosting a Rickshaw event or throwing their marketing efforts behind the cause, partners all over the United States are getting involved in the Rickshaw mission.

Looking in our home city of San Francisco, we found a lot of great food related non-profit organizations but this particular one really struck a chord with us. In Northern California, we have partnered with OLD SKOOL CAFÉ, a youth led Supper Club that provides at-risk kids with marketable employment skills in the restaurant industry. [...] read more >
GOOD FOOD FOR ALL. We can really get behind that sentiment. Part of the reason we started the 5% mission with RICKSHAW is because we realize and appreciate that we are fortunate to eat well all the time – a luxury not afforded to all. Over the past few years we’ve consistently added to our rolodex of sources for high quality Pinot Noir. We are now working with somebody somewhere, in nearly every California AVA where good Pinot Noir is made, to source parcels that are true to Pinot Noirs beguiling nature.
The 2011 RICKSHAW Pinot Noir is comprised of three primary appellations: Sonoma Coast, Anderson Valley and Santa Barbara County. Each one adds a special element that contributes to the overall harmony and style of this charming wine. The wine saw 25% new French Oak and was aged for 13 months before bottling.
The 2011 RICKSHAW is absolutely true to Pinot Noir’s traditional flavor profile - extremely well balanced and above all, delicious. The aromatics speak of black cherries, pluots and violets. In the mouth the wine is all suave texture with notes of plum, wild strawberries and a compelling savory note.
Over the last few years, with the wild success of Banshee, we’ve gotten pretty good at unearthing high-quality Pinot Noir lots across California. From Santa Barbara all the way up to Ukiah, we’ve come across some incredible gems that we absolutely had to have for our Rickshaw project. The 2010 Rickshaw Pinot Noir is comprised primarily of two upper echelon appellations: Sonoma Coast and Anderson Valley. These two appellations account for seven of the eleven vineyard sources in this utterly tasty blend. All told, the wine saw about 20% new French Oak and twelve months of aging.
The resulting wine is absolutely true to Pinot Noir’s traditional flavor profile – extremely well balanced and above all, delicious. The nose offers up sweet cherry notes, rose petals and a touch of forest floor. The wine is suave and pleasantly juicy on the palate with notes of plum, dark cherry and pomegranate.

We started out with a rockin’ base (bass?) of Napa Valley fruit that was originally intended for $50+ bottles of wine. Choice pieces from well known Cabernet Sauvignon appellations such as Alexander Valley and Paso Robles were then layered on, as well as a huge score of 8 barrels from a recent James Beard nominated winemaker. To add some flourishes, finesse, and general fanciness there are small amounts of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and even a scosh of inky Petite Sirah.
The resulting wine is a regal, but friendly expression of Cabernet. Beautiful aromas of dark cherries, ripe plum and cigar box leap from the glass. These are followed by a suave mix of wild berries, mocha, and spice. The wine has a ballast of ripe and extremely well integrated tannins

With Chablis as the center of our Chardonnay universe (well, not that we would turn down some other Burgundies), it can sometimes be difficult to craft something at this price that speaks to our sensibilities. But craft it we have, working with cool vineyard sites in Mendocino and the Sonoma Coast. Vinification & elevage in stainless steel tank.
The 2011 Rickshaw Chardonnay offers a zingy, racy, and lemony treat preceded by fresh aromas of apple and pear. The incredibly cool vintage aided in adding another layer of bright acidity to the mix. This wine has energy to burn.
